Celebrating In Denver
Transitions have now become a daily thing. New places, new views, new people and new adventures. We have always loved people coming to our home and enjoying our back yard and taste the local spirits with us. Now it’s our turn to return that favor with one of our favorites! With eyes on the future, we make the next leg of our journey into Denver, Colorado for a birthday, beers and some radical times!

We received a warm welcome into Denver, both by Amy Zurcher and the beautiful Denver weather. It was quite the contrast from the freezing cold temperatures in Loveland. It was Amy’s birthday and she and Will gave us a tour of their new neighborhood. Our first stop was at Forest Room 5, a whimsical woodsy cocktail bar with super tasty drinks. The bar had firepits on the patio, retro movies on the big screen and an array of eccentric forest-themed details.
Our second stop was at a bar/restaurant called Happy Camper. It was a super cute place with lots of twinkling lights and disco balls. They had delicious pizza and chambongs, which was a must for us to partake in, given that it was Amy’s birthday and all!
We did not set any alarms, slept in and had a very slow morning of watching college football at Amy and Will’s house. This was a nice change of pace compared to the past few travel days. We finally made our way out of the house for brunch at a restaurant called Recess in the LoHi neighborhood. We partook in mimosas, bloody marys and the tastiest brisket breakfast burritos. After that, it was off to Left Hand Brewery to taste the local flavor. We have had their beers through distribution in Montana, but they had so many more unique delicious flavors in-house! Next up, we were headed to the minor league hockey game between the Colorado Eagles and the Ontario Reign. The Eagles won 7-3, but the most excitement came from the fights that broke out between the two teams. That is why we go to live hockey games, right? Following the game, we headed to an Arcade bar in Loveland, CO called The Flipside. If you know Billy, you know that he loves any bar that games can be played. Also, it is a little-known fact that Amity is a pinball wizard!
We had to set alarms today to make sure that we were up and ready for our brunch reservation at 9:45 am. Life is pretty tough right now. We jumped on electric scooters and made our way towards McGregor Square. We met Amity’s friend Meghan at The Original for breakfast. We then made our way to another bar to watch Sunday football. Following that, we went to a super fun indoor Colorado-themed putt-putt bar called Urban Putt. We sampled tasty libations and played a super competitive round of putt-putt, of which we are still unsure who won. After putt-putt, it was time to settle in and watch the Chiefs vs Titans game at Amy and Will’s home.
Amy was willing to take the day off and join us for outdoor Colorado adventures. We headed to Roxborough Park, outside of Denver. We hiked amongst beautiful red rock features with our tour guide Amy leading the way. Amy and Amity had a clinical in Whitefish together in 2011 and have been the best hiking buddies since. Amy was a travel PT for 8 years, before settling down in Denver. She would always say that Whitefish was on her way to the next travel contract and made frequent visits. Now Amy is actually on the way to most travel contracts and we are looking forward to many visits in the future. Side note, Amity and Amy are much better at hiking together than they are at baking together.
We spent the morning packing and repacking our car to prepare for our journey to Kansas City. If you know Kansas, you know that it is a thrilling state to drive across… Amy told us about a website called Atlas Obscura, which makes road trips a bit more exciting. Therefore, we had to make a pit stop in Goodland, KS to see the World’s Largest Easel/Largest Van Gogh Painting and eat a picnic lunch. When we finally reached Leawood, we had a welcoming committee (the Early clan) there to greet us! We are excited to spend some extended time with family this holiday season!
