MLB Opening Weekend

It has been a while since I have been able to enjoy a St. Louis Cardinal’s game in STL. I used to be so spoiled with all of the baseball, while living in St. Louis for PT school. For a short time, I lived right on Broadway Street downtown and was able to see the stadium from my living room and hear the fireworks when there was a homerun scored or the Cardinal’s won. It is safe to say that I bailed on studying a few times to partake in a few innings. I still graduated from PT school and passed boards, so I would say that it was worth it! One advantage of living in St. James is that STL is only a short 1.5 hours away. It is feasible to head over for a game and back in the same day and that is exactly what we decided to do.

BASEBALL SEASON IS BACK!!!!!

We arrived in STL early in the morning to meet my good friend Whitney for breakfast. She was my former roommate, whom I lived with in downtown STL and who accompanied me to many Cardinals games. Fun fact, we went to the 2006 World Series together and got to witness them win the World Series. That was an experience that will surely bond us together for life. I was trying to get her to join us for a game, though she was busy trying to put a house on the market and couldn’t swing it. We did enjoy a lovely breakfast together, which was worth the wait because that was more time to hang out and catch up!

If you know Billy, you know that he is a baseball fanatic. He is a big time Yankees fan, but also simply a baseball fan in general. He was very eager to get to the game early to take it all in (and get the free shirt that was going to the first people through the gates). We were successful in getting those shirts and in our seats in time to catch all of the pre-game action. Billy was in charge of getting the tickets, because he no longer trusts me after my seat selections for the Blues game…

The Cardinals were playing the Toronto Blue Jays and it was an exciting game, as the Cardinals hit 3 home runs in the first inning! I have to say that it felt pretty awesome to be sitting at that ball park again. It was an absolute perfect day as far as weather goes, with it being blue bird and 70 degrees out. I actually had to go buy $8 travel size “Cardinal’s” sunscreen. The Cardinal’s won the game 9-4 and we were off to celebrate! We headed to Ballpark Village outside of Busch Stadium for a beer, before heading to “Broadway Oyster Bar” for dinner. Ballpark Village was packed! The NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship game was going on. So many people were cheering on both teams. It was an added amount of excitement after a great game. The Broadway Oyster Bar used to be one of my favorite spots to hang out when I lived in STL and you simply can’t pass up the opportunity for gator bites.

Following a delicious dinner, we made our way back to Rolla, with Billy fast asleep and dreaming about our next baseball adventure. We already have plans for one big game, but we know we will be back for others!
